"Hello World"

My name is Eric Altendorf. I'm currently studying with Tom Dietterich at Oregon State University (I apologize if that link takes you to a large photograph of cows with glasses; I am absolutely not responsible for the department's graphic design choices). I've been convinced to share some thoughts on machine learning by my friend Yaroslav, though I am quite sure I will have not so much to share as he.

  • And for that, spending time on offline things that count, such as writing theses, as opposed to fun, but professionally underappricated things, like reading blogs, is surely not the least reason ;)

  • That being said, you are an inspiration to diversify. I used to be good at that, before I got focused on my thesis. I'm reading Guy Lebanon's PhD thesis now to get an intro to information geometry stuff...I really like theses better than papers when getting in to unfamiliar territory. They tend to be so much more thorough with background material and explanation.
